Depression is a common yet serious problem. It often makes individuals feel sad or empty for long time periods. It can affect one’s patterns of thinking as well as physical health. In many cases, depression can end in suicide.
What is depression?

Symptoms of depression are often varying from one person to another. Someone’s culture, gender or age can change how a person experiences depression. Yet many forms of depression can include these symptoms which are common:

- Getting not enough or too much sleep
- Difficulty enjoying events that one used to like
- Unexplained physical problems such as muscle pain or headaches
- Problem with concentrating
- Changes in eating habits or weight
- Thoughts of suicide
A person with depression likely has trouble handling daily problems. Sometimes the simplest of activities – getting out of bed, bathing as well as dressing – can feel terrible. What depression is not?
There are some myths surrounding therapy. Though it is important to know what depression is can be equally important to know what depression is not. Depression is not simply sadness. Most individuals get upset when life does not go their way. But, often those with depression can feel so bad they struggle to do everyday activities like bathing or eating. To count as depression the sadness must be a constant, as well as long-lasting feeling.
