Bad fitness habits you should break

Bad fitness habits can be easy to develop and you may not even realize you have them. These habits can slow down your fitness progress and can affect your long-term health. Here are some common bad fitness habits that you should break from the home doctor experts at House Call Doctor.

Exercising on an empty stomach

Contrary to popular belief, working out on an empty stomach will not make you lose more fat. Not eating will actually make you more tired and you won’t burn as many calories as you don’t have enough energy. Try to eat something 30 minutes to an hour before you start your workout.

Sticking with your regular routine

Our bodies are constantly changing and so is our environment and lifestyles. You have to consistently challenge your body to see progress, so try to change your routine every few weeks. It’s important to have a routine that is flexible as life can get in the way sometimes (or rather a pandemic) and we may not be able to get to our usual gym or Pilates class.

Skipping stretches

Stretching is a vital part of exercising. Beginning a workout without warming up, or not stretching at the end can be very dangerous and harmful to your health.

Checking your phone

While listening to music can be motivating, constantly checking your phone throughout your workout can be dangerous. Distractions mean you are not concentrating on the exercises you are doing which can lead to serious injuries.

Not knowing your limits

It’s important to understand and be aware of your limitations when exercising. Make sure you take the time to practice proper form and if the exercise is too hard, modify it to suit your abilities. If you have an injury, find exercises to work around it.
